Album: Kanye West – Ye

Album: Kanye West – Ye

I’m just going to repost what I said about the album on Facebook. It’s not bad by any means but it’s nothing to write home about either. I’m glad to have human Kanye back. I’m glad he’s letting us into his mind a little bit more instead of trying so hard to be something he really isn’t but at the end of the day this will be an album that many people will forget about sooner than later. The album is available to stream below on spotify.

Here is what I said on FB last night (yea I had this shit early).

“To those of you calling it the best hip hop album of the year already, please stop.. just stop right now. It was a fun little ride and I appreciate what he’s rapping about but that’s really about all I’m taking away from it at this time. Kanye is pushing the genre forward with this because he’s choosing rap and hip hop to be the vessel for this message and with the platform he has, he is bringing light to things you wouldn’t expect in the world of hip hop and that is very cool in that regard.

In my opinion though it’s far from what I consider a classic “hip hop” album. It’s original, it’s creative, and even innovative as far as subject matter goes. But it’s not timeless nor is it something that I think will go down as being “classic” in any real way. It’s not the best album of 2018 and it might not even be the best album of this month as far as replay value and vibe goes but I’m not here to hate on it in any way. I appreciate it for what it is and I commend him for using hip hop to talk about what he’s going through but that’s all it really is to me at this time anyway.”

Soul Bandit – Living A Dream [VISUAL ACCOMPANIMENT]

Soul Bandit – Living A Dream [VISUAL ACCOMPANIMENT]

The every so talented Soul Bandit is back with something new for you to sing your eyes into. Besides being an incredibly talented producer and DJ, Soul Bandit now takes her turn at video production with her first ever original video. She made this whole thing by herself (which, all things considered, is pretty awesome since she is not a video producer or director of any kind)) and she had this to say about her latest piece of art:

“Although conceptually the video is completely separate from the meaning behind the song, I feel like the track has a very spacey/outer-worldly feel to it. I just wanted to have fun with making some visuals to go along with the song, so I just put together what felt right in the moment. This is my first attempt at (single handedly) making a full length visual accompaniment to a song, so although it isn’t perfect I enjoyed experimenting with making it and I feel like, when combined, it creates an appropriately enhanced experience.” – Soul Bandit

Bobby Nourmand : L I V E in San Francisco (2 Hour Set)

Bobby Nourmand : L I V E in San Francisco (2 Hour Set)

I’m a little late on this one but I wanted to make sure my dedicated readers did not miss out on the latest mix from Bobby Nourmand. I have know Bobby for a few years now and his progression as an artist has just been awesome to watch. Bobby’s music is all about the vibe and his original production along with his carefully selected tracks always come together to create something special.

Bobby recently played a rooftop show in San Francisco and I guess it was so good that he couldn’t keep his two hour set all to himself. Check out the whole thing below and be sure to stay tuned for more music from Bobby very soon.

[Ghoul Pop] Soul Bandit – Living A Dream

[Ghoul Pop] Soul Bandit – Living A Dream

One of my favorite new artists in the last couple of years is finally back with some new music. Soul Bandit stands for everything that I love about music. She’s original, she doesn’t give a fuck about what everyone else is doing, and she’s putting out music that she loves and can really stand behind. In a day and age where everybody is willing to sell out right away just for a chance to blow up, it’s incredibly refreshing to have someone like Soul Bandit around who you know is just going to do her all day.

As far as “Living A Dream” goes, it’s fucking great. Soul Bandit again takes her poppy style of beat making and combines it with those deep / dark lyrics that she is known for, bringing attention to today’s fucked up reality while making you think you’re just listening to a fun little pop song. It’s easy to say that I’m addicted to this one.

Check out the track below and be on the look out for more from Soul bandit soon.

Chuurch Drop New Uunion EP via NEST

Chuurch Drop New Uunion EP via NEST

Chuurch have today dropped their full EP – Uunion – on Skrillex’s free download imprint NEST. The 4 track EP, which was teased by singles One Mind and Erase The Pain feat. Blak Trash, is one of the most sonically unique projects we’ve heard in a while, grabbing listeners attention with “Lean Bass” production that has become their hallmark sound.

The EP is defined by it’s relunctantly slow but engaging pace, and tasty blend of hip-hop and electronica. Rife with vocal samples and chunky basslines, the EP should delight fans across a multitude of genres, a true mishmash of styles both in terms of the music itself and Chuurch’s dark and somber visual aesthetic.

“This EP is a step outside the usual comfort zone of dance, we want people to embrace the dark side on this one,” – remarks Chuurch

With previous releases on Zeds Dead’s label Deadbeats and Billy Kenny’s label, This Ain’t Bristol – Chuurch have begun to bubble up in the underground and through this latest Uunion EP release on NEST – we think Chuurch’s time has come to pick up traction in the mainstream. With several festival shows in the works in the summer, including DeadRocks at Red Rocks in July, it’s clear that 2018 should be a big one for the Calgary-based production duo.

How to win tickets to Coachella + The Complete Coachella Party Guide

How to win tickets to Coachella + The Complete Coachella Party Guide

Coachella is the premiere music festival in the united states and with ticket prices now climbing close to $500 just for GA, it can be hard to justify spending all that dough. As a natural born hustler, I have not paid to go to Coachella in more than 7 years, going each weekend since they started doing doubles 5 years ago. With that being said, one of the easiest ways to go to Coachella for free is by winning a contest. Now that might sound crazy because lots of people enter these things, but what most people don’t understand is that you can;t win something unless you enter! Even entering once gives you a chance to win and that chance is greater than if you didn’t enter at all! I’m working on a book right now that details how I have somehow gone to over 300 music festivals over the last decade for free and while I continue to work on that, I wanted to pass some of my knowledge to you here so maybe you too can join in on the free fun.

Chuurch Team Up With Blak Trash on New Single: Erase The Pain

Chuurch Team Up With Blak Trash on New Single: Erase The Pain

Chuurch are a little known Canadian production duo with a big future ahead of them. With previous releases on This Ain’t Bristol, Perfect Driver and Deadbeats – the Calgary-based duo are gearing up to release their Uunion EP on NEST this Friday as a free download.

Today, they’ve teased the forthcoming EP by dropping a new single: Erase The Pain feat. Blak Trash. Chuurch teamed up with Blak Trash, a Northern California-based rap duo who’s hypnotizing, monotonous flows pairs perfectly with Chuurch’s minimalist production.

This song bangs so hard, we kinda wish Blak Trash would release a full project purely filled with Chuurch production. For the meantime, we’ll settle for the forthcoming Uunion EP that Chuurch is dropping as a free download on NEST, this Friday

Golden Features Shares New Single ‘Falling Out’, Announces Debut Album

Golden Features Shares New Single ‘Falling Out’, Announces Debut Album

One of Australia’s favourite and most prominent producers, Golden Features aka Tom Stell today shares his new single “Falling Out”, out now on Warner Music Australia & Big Beat.

A deeply driving and emotional cut, “Falling Out” follows on from 2016’s phenomenal double a-side released through ODESZA’s label Foreign Family Collective, featuring the ethereal lullaby “Wolfie” with Julia Stone and darker number, “Funeral”. An electro-tinged journey of crunching synth stabs and momentous builds of infectiously propelling rhythms, “Falling Out” is clear and slicing in delivery.

Golden Features on “Falling Out”: “This song for me was a step away from conventional club music and a step toward traditional songwriting. It’s incredibly important to me that this album was built on songs and not single use/disposable club cuts.”

Following the successful releases of Golden Features’ self-titled debut EP in 2014, follow-up XXIV EP in 2015 and the atmospheric and infectious double a-side in 2016, Stell has risen to the top of Australia’s electronic music scene and become one of our most innovative producers. In the live arena, after selling out his Australian headline tour in 2015 and playing to leading US festivals like HARD Summer and Holy Ship, alongside joining Alison Wonderland on her US tour – Golden Features made groundbreaking festival appearances at Splendour in the Grass in 2017 and Field Day earlier this year. Debuting a brand new live show in January, the producer fast cemented his reputation for delivering a magnified audio-visual experience of his all encompassing productions.

Golden Features emerges from the studio today with another highly welcomed, innovative taste of new music – letting his creative abilities reach expanded heights once more. With further promised music on the way, sink into “Falling Out” for now – and watch Tom Stell continue his impressive ascent as one of Australia’s brightest artists in 2018.

Tropkillaz releases Milk & Honey featuring Aloe Blacc

Tropkillaz releases Milk & Honey featuring Aloe Blacc

Renowned for their trap music in the EDM world, Brazilian duos Tropkillaz returns with brand new single, Milk & Honey featuring American singer Aloe Blacc.

The Brazilian producers DJ ZaGon and Andre Laudz rose to fame in 2012 and received global recognition for their featured track “Hide” that received about 100 million views for the 2013 Superbowl. Backtracking to how the group was formed, it came to a surprise that the pair actually met on Twitter and are at least a generation apart in age. Nevertheless, the two clicked and began regularly making beats together, establishing themselves as Kings in the Trap world.

The two talented producers have teamed up with Aloe Blacc for an infectious new song and video  – Milk & Honey – right in time for the ensuing spring and summer months. Tropkillaz have gone for more electro/pop-driven production than their usual bass-heavy sound and Aloe Blacc’s vocals take the track to a new level, completing an unexpected but impressive collaboration.

If you heard of Avicii’s “Wake Me Up”, you would have heard Aloe Blacc’s amazing vocals behind one of the biggest crossover songs of the decade. Not only was he known for this track, he was also known for his singles ‘I need a Dollar’ and ‘The Man’ which topped the charts in the United Kingdom.

The video has been shot between Los Angeles and São Paulo and is produced & directed by Brazilian super director Kondzilla (owner of the world’s #1 music channel), and Marcos Loschiavo.

Check out the music video below.
